Art Basel, known by locals as Art Week, is America’s largest and most prestigious art show, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami. Yes, the show focuses on modern and contemporary art and puts more than 250 galleries and 4,000 artists from across the globe in front of the art world’s top curators, museums and collectors but weekend of Art Basel has become a major draw for Miami locals and foreigners alike, with parties, satellite fairs and other awesome events being held in conjunction with the show.

For those who like art but aren’t sure if the Miami Art Basel scene is right for them, we have compiled a list of all the other exciting things happening in Miami that week. The Magic City is now home to more than 25 pop-up art festivals, shows and parties that come alive during the first week of December.

With plenty of ground to cover and drawing crowds upwards 50,000 people, Art Basel Miami Beach is, in a word, overwhelming. It’s important to pace yourself so that you can get the most out of the experience without kicking into contemporary art overload.

Depending on the fairgoer, you may wish to let your whim be your guide as you wander the maze of booths, or use the floor map and select galleries of interest to prioritize your time. Guided tours by established art critics are also available if reserved in advance.
